Onewood: A Multi-functional Entertainment Space in Beijing

Designing Three Floors to Represent Different Personalities

Onewood is a unique and multi-functional entertainment space located in Beijing, China. Designed by Yan Wu, this interior design project showcases three distinct spaces on different floors, each representing the personalities of different types of drinkers.

OneWood is composed of three floors, each with its own design style and atmosphere. The challenge for the design team was to create three different spaces that seamlessly blend together while still maintaining their individuality. The first floor, known as the Scholar, exudes elegance and sophistication. The second floor, called the General, embodies strength and power. Finally, the underground space, known as the Maniac, is a wild and vibrant area for those looking to let loose and have a great time.

The inspiration for Onewood comes from a Chinese myth about the god of wine named Du Kang. According to the myth, Du Kang was unable to create the perfect wine until an old man appeared in his dream and told him to gather three drops of blood from three different people in three days. This story inspired the concept of having three different spaces, each representing a different type of drinker.

From the layout to the lighting, and from the materials to the decorations, the design team faced the challenge of bringing their concepts to life. To realize their vision, they collaborated with the film props crew from the movie "The Wandering Earth." This collaboration allowed them to create a fantastic atmosphere that perfectly captured the essence of each floor.

The underground space, in particular, is a sensory overload of flashing lights, neon signs, and abandoned experimental stations. It is a place where people can let go of their inhibitions and experience a wild and unbridled carnival. The design team wanted to create an environment that would allow visitors to release their stress and indulge in a world beyond reality.

The Onewood project started in August 2018 and was completed in July 2019. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research into films, Chinese mythology, and music to ensure that their design was unique and captivating.

Onewood has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. Onewood truly stands out as a remarkable and innovative entertainment space in Beijing.
